Surya Namaskars

June 20th (Round I) Saturday 7am-8:30am

27th (Round II) Saturday 7am-8:30am

Every month join me to perform 108 Surya Namaskars as a practice to help inspire discipline, WEIGHT LOSS, STRENGTHENING, commitment, and focus.

Sun is the nurturer of life and hence, ancient religions all over the world, worshipped the Sun. The Sun also, represents the masculine energy we all carry, also so known at the Yang energy. Surya Namaskar practice is meant to help balance the masculine energy. It not only nourishes the body but also refreshes and relaxes the mind and sharpens the intellect of the person who regularly practices the Sun Salutation.

Surya Namaskar can be practiced at any time of the day but the best effects are early morning. The Yogis and Rishis all practice the Sun Salutation regularly. They know of the wonderful therapeutic effects of the Sun Salutation. The practice helps encourage concentration and increase energy in the body and mind. It is a great mood elevator and elevates the spiritual level within a short span of time if practiced consistently. This yogic practice helps ease and strengthen the breathing system.

The Surya Namaskar is a complete yoga package in itself and you can just practise the Surya Namaskar and be fit throughout your life. It looks after the overall fitness of the body. It mobilizes the limbs, stretches and relaxes the muscles. Also, inculcates in you the habit of maintaining the right posture, thereby bringing in the right balance in the body.

Every month I teach 108 and Sun Salutations. Broken down into 2 sessions of 54 Sun Salutations.

Why 108 Sun Salutations? What is the significance behind the number 108?

  • Sanskrit alphabet has 54 letters. Each letter has a masculine (Shiva) and feminine (Shakti) energy 54 X 2 = 108

  • Desires. There are said to be 108 earthly desires in mortals.

  • Time. It is said we have 108 feelings. 36 related to the past, 36 related to the present, and 36 related to the future.

  • Astrology. There are 12 constellations and 9 arc segments. There are 12 houses and 9 planets. 12 X 9 = 108

  • The diameter of the sun is 108 times the earth.

Therefore, the number 108 is considered to be spiritual.

“There is a sun within every person.” — Rumi

Prepping for the 54 Surya Namaskar Practice:

Not optional:

Please avoid any heavy meals for at least 3 hours prior to the session.

Optional:

Keep 2 cushions/pillows and a blanket at hand.

Before the Practice, take a cool shower or bath. If a certain volume of water flows over your body, or your body is immersed in cool water, the epithelial cells will contract and the intercellular spaces will expand. we want the cellular structure of the body to be charged with Solar energy. This energy brings vitality on a cellular level.

Practice Surya Kriya-Sun cleanse

If you start sweating, do not wipe off the sweat with a towel – always rub it back, at least into the exposed parts of your skin. If you wipe off the sweat, you drain the energy that you have generated from the practice. Water has the capability to carry memory and energy.

After the practice, wait at least 1.5 hours before taking a shower – three hours would be even better.

Take a moment to contemplate who and what you are, where you come from, and how you’re connected to every other living being on this planet.
