WHAT IS THE SHADOW?

The idea of the shadow is most commonly associated with psychologist Carl Jung. In simple terms, it describes aspects of ourselves that sit outside our conscious identity.

As we move through childhood, family, culture, relationships and life, we learn what parts of ourselves receive love, approval, belonging or safety — and which parts don't.

So we adapt.

  • We become the strong one.

  • The good one.

  • The successful one.

  • The caretaker.

  • The quiet one.

  • The independent one.

  • The one who doesn't need anyone.

And sometimes the qualities that don't fit that identity become pushed away.

Shadow work is the practice of becoming curious about what we have pushed away and how it may still be influencing us.

It asks us to look beneath the reaction.

Beneath the trigger. Beneath the pattern.

And sometimes beneath the story we have been telling ourselves for years.

The progressive inquiry

Four weeks. Four layers.

A deliberate descent through the strata of persona, somatic contraction, and inherited archetypes to reclaim the sovereign energy locked within.

Week 1 · See Tuesday 3 November

Self. Meeting the shadow.

Before we can work with a pattern, we have to be willing to see it.

We will explore what the shadow is, how it forms, conditioning, projection, triggers and the fascinating idea of the golden shadow — the positive qualities we may have disowned too.

We will also begin exploring the yogic understanding of our patterns through avidyā, the kleshas, samskaras and svādhyāya — self-study.

Our practice will be centred around witnessing.
  • Not fixing.
  • Not forcing.
  • Not analysing every sensation.
  • Learning to notice.
Our inquiry

What parts of me have I learned are acceptable — and what parts have I learned to hide?

Week 2 · Trace Tuesday 10 November

Body. Pattern into the body.

This week we move underneath the story.

We explore the nervous system, protective responses and what can happen in the body when we feel threatened, criticised, rejected, overwhelmed or unsafe.

We will look at patterns including people pleasing, avoidance, control and hyper-independence and begin recognising how our own patterns show themselves through breath, sensation and behaviour.

  • Through yoga we will explore the relationship between prana, body and mind.
  • Our practice will bring together somatic awareness, breath, intentional movement, shaking and stillness.
Our inquiry

What happens in my body when I don't feel safe enough to be fully myself?

Week 3 · Meet Tuesday 17 November

Mind. Triggers, projection and the disowned self.

This is where we begin getting curious about our reactions.

  • Judgement
  • Anger
  • Jealousy
  • Shame
  • Resentment
  • Perfectionism

The situations that seem to press exactly the right button.
Instead of immediately asking How do I stop feeling this?, we begin asking something different:

What might this reaction be trying to protect?

We will explore projection, triggers, the roles we learn to play and how our earlier experiences can influence present-day reactions without allowing our past to become an excuse for our behaviour.

Through the yogic practice of svādhyāya, we practise looking honestly at ourselves without turning self-awareness into self-criticism.

Week 4 · Integrate Tuesday 24 November

Integrate. Reclaiming the whole self.

The goal of shadow work isn't to spend the rest of our lives looking for another wound. Eventually, we have to live.

Integration asks:
  • What do I do with what I now know?
  • What needs compassion?
  • What requires accountability?
  • What boundary needs to change?
  • What part of myself am I ready to reclaim?

And what happens when I stop dividing myself into the parts that are worthy and the parts that aren't?

Our final practice will bring everything together through movement, breath, meditation, stillness, and reflection.

You will finish by creating your own 30-Day Integration Commitment so that the work doesn't end when our four Tuesdays do.

Deepa Sapra, Yoga Therapist and Shadow Guide

Deepa Sapra, Yoga Therapist

Meet your guide

I'm Deepa Sapra, a Yoga Therapist, Firewalker and Glasswalker.

For me, yoga has never simply been about what happens on a mat.

Yoga gives us a framework for understanding ourselves — our minds, our patterns, our breath, our bodies and ultimately the way we move through our lives.

My teaching brings together Yoga Therapy, ancient yogic philosophy, nervous-system awareness, breath, meditation, embodied practice and deep self-inquiry.

I don't believe the purpose of inner work is to create a perfectly healed human being.

I believe it helps us become more conscious ones. And that is what these four weeks are about

What you'll receive

Your £27/£37 investment includes four live two-hour sessions — eight hours together in total, a Shadow Journey workbook, weekly self-inquiry and journal practices, trigger and pattern-mapping exercises, embodied Yoga Therapy-informed practices and tools you can continue returning to beyond November.

4 × 2

hours live, eight hours together across four intensive weekend modules

  • You do not need to be experienced in yoga.

  • You do not need to meditate every day.

  • And you certainly don't need to arrive having already figured yourself out.

THIS JOURNEY MAY BE FOR YOU IF...

  • You keep noticing the same patterns appearing in different forms.

  • You understand why you do certain things but still find yourself doing them. Certain people or situations trigger a reaction in you that feels much bigger than the moment itself.

  • You people-please, withdraw, overthink, control, rescue, overachieve or find it difficult to set boundaries.

  • You've been doing personal-development work but want to move beyond simply thinking differently.

  • You're interested in yoga as something much deeper than postures.

  • Or perhaps you simply have a feeling that there are parts of yourself you haven't fully met yet.

  • That is enough.
